Hair oil is one of the simplest and most effective treatments for soft, shiny hair. However, if used incorrectly, it can leave hair greasy or weighed down. Here is how to use it properly, according to your needs.
Why use hair oil?
Vegetable oils are rich in fatty acids that nourish the fiber, coat the lengths, and protect the ends. They are particularly useful for dry, curly, colored, or heat-damaged hair (blow-dryers, straighteners).
Method 1: the pre-shampoo oil bath
This is the most nourishing method, ideal once a week.
- On dry hair, apply the oil from the lengths to the ends, section by section.
- Leave on for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for an intense effect (protect your pillowcase with a towel).
- Then shampoo as usual, focusing on the lengths. Two shampoos may sometimes be necessary.
For this ritual, try the Ayurvedic hair oil with amla and henna, inspired by traditional Indian treatments.
Method 2: a few drops on the ends
On dry or slightly damp hair, after styling, warm 1 to 3 drops between your palms and apply them only to the ends. Result: less frizz, more shine, and protected ends.
Tip: always start with very little product. It is easier to add more than to remove it.
Our suggestion: the multi-use treatment oil with squalane, jojoba, and rosehip, which can also be used on the face.
Method 3: scalp massage
A few drops of oil massaged into the scalp with your fingertips using small circular motions offer a real moment of relaxation and soothe a scalp prone to tightness. Leave on, then wash your hair.
To try: the hair oil with camphor and peppermint, for a sensation of freshness.
How much should you use based on your hair type?
- Fine hair: 1 to 2 drops on the ends only. Prefer the pre-shampoo oil bath.
- Thick or curly hair: 3 to 5 drops, on lengths and ends.
- Oily scalp: avoid the roots and focus on the lengths.
And after?
To gently remove the oil without drying out your hair, choose a gentle shampoo, like our fortifying shampoo with caffeine and rosemary, which is also suitable for colored hair.
